Political Roundup - Haley Touts Record, Gowdy Talks Education and Jobs

Governor also said she has no interest in a VP slot

This week the Upstate area seemed to catch its first wave of primary fever as two of nomination . It may have seemed as though the media had trained its focus solely on the national political picture, but the state’s other elected officials made news as well.

On Monday, Gov. Nikki Haley held the ceremonial signing of a tax reform bill intended to benefit the real estate market.

On Tuesday, Haley touted her first-year accomplishments at a luncheon in Aiken.

On Wednesday, Haley said she would “absolutely not” join the Republican presidential nominee as a vice presidential candidate. She also held a ceremonial signing of a bill intended to make it easier for state residents living abroad to vote.

Also on Wednesday, Haley referred to National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) as a “rogue agency.”

On Friday, Haley was in Dallas to attend a luncheon of the World Affairs Council.

Also on Friday, Haley announced the appointment of Christine Glover, as the next Director of the South Carolina Governor’s Office of Executive Policy and Programs (OEPP).

During the week, Haley also announced that two companies will be expanding and bringing jobs to the State.

Senator Graham released the following statements on Syria and Libya.

Jim DeMint

Even though he has not declared himself a candidate, Sen. Jim DeMint filed paperwork and is raising money for his 2016 re-election campaign.

DeMint appeared on the new Glenn Beck television program on Friday.

Trey Gowdy

Despite one local media outlet’s headline to the contrary, Congressman Trey Gowdy does plan on running for re-election in 2012.

Gowdy on education and business in the Upstate at ICAR on Monday.

On Wednesday, Gowdy met constituents in Spartanburg.
