Governor Haley in the background as all eyes focused on the debt debate

In concert with our ongoing coverage of the Republican Presidential Primaries, each Monday Mauldin Patch will take a look back at the last week of news for South Carolina's governor (Nikki Haley) its senators (Lindsey Graham and Jim DeMint), and its congressman, Trey Gowdy who represents South Carolina's 4th district, of which Mauldin is part.
Unless you are just now emerging from an extended subterranean existence you undoubtedly know that the big news last week was the debate over the debt ceiling. It appears there will be a vote today.

On Tuesday, Governor Haley was called on to remove the Confederate Flag at the state capitol by the head of the NAACP. A spokesman said Haley has no plans to do so.
On Wednesday, Haley signed a tort reform bill that would cap damages at $2 million.

Also on Wednesday, Haley met with Wall Street analysts and pronounced the state’s fiscal condition better than that of the federal government.
On Thursday, via press release, Haley called on Congress to support Congressman Tim Scott’s bill to rein in the NLRB.
During the week it was reported by the Associated Press that Haley identified herself as “white” on a voter registration form in 2001. Haley was born in South Carolina after both her parents emigrated from India.
