School Notes: Mauldin High School

Congrats due to the Mavs' orchestra, wind ensemble, and speech and debate team.

Mauldin High Orchestra Earns Excellent Rating
The Mauldin High Orchestra went to the SCMEA Concert Festival in Spartanburg and earned an Excellent rating. (An "Excellent" is the second-highest rating given and is defined as: "Truly fine work; worthy of compliment and praise."

Congrats to the MHS Wind Ensemble!
The MHS Wind Ensemble performed at the State Concert Band Festival and earned a Superior Rating in Grade 6. Music is graded 1-6 with 6 being the most difficult level, and Superior is the best rating a band can receive.

The Civitan Award for the 2012-2013 School Year Goes To…
Kentra Washington and Myron Reese. Kentra is the daughter of Kent and Andrea Washington of Simpsonville. Myron is of the son of Myron Reese, Sr. and Erica Reese of Simpsonville. Mrs. Reese is a math teacher at Mauldin High. Kentra and Myron will be honored on May 6 at a banquet downtown.

Speech and Debate Team Success!
The Speech and Debate Team had the following at the District Tournament:William Cummings placed 6th in Congressional DebateWilliam Woods and Laura Collyer made it to Semi-Finals in Duo Interpretation.

Volleyball Conditioning Begins April 8
Conditioning for rising 9th-12th grade girls who are interested in trying out for the 2013-14 volleyball team will be on April 8, 9, 11, 19, 22, 26, 29, and 30th from 4-5:30pm in the new gym. Contact Val Thoms at Vthoms@greenville.k12.sc.us.

MHS Spirit Week Beneficiary Applications Now Available
Mauldin High School Student Council is now taking applications for the school's 2013-2014 charity. Applications are available on the MHS website. Applications must be turned in prior to June 4.
