Signal at Bridges and Holland in Need of Repair

City will seek majority of funding from outside group.

At , the Public Works Committee discussed the repair of the traffic signals at the intersection of Holland and Bridges roads.

The signals need the following work:

  • The cabinet and controller need to be replaced.
  • Two loops need to be added as does a left turn arrow for traffic traveling north on Holland turning left (or west) on to Bridges.
  • The lighting needs to be replaced with LED lighting which is more energy efficient.

The estimated cost for the work is $29,950.

The city will look to the Greenville Legislative Delegation Transportation Committee (GLDTC) as a potential source to help defray costs. GLDTC's procurement code permits written bids for items less than $25,000.

City Administrator Trey Eubanks recommended applying to GLDTC for $21,450 with the city paying the remaining $8,500 from the Street division of Public Works.

The committee agreed to move the matter before the full council on March 19.

The city presently owns the signal, but if it is replaced the city plans to ask SCDOT to maintain the signal.
