MHS Winners at Declamation Contest!

On Saturday, October 29, MHS students competed against students from several schools throughout South Carolina and Georgia in Clemson University's 39th Annual Declamation Contest. The students were required to recite two selections from memory: a mandatory selection and a second selection chosen from three poems. The judges based their decision on pronunciation, interpretation of the text, smoothness of delivery, and textural accuracy. Congratulations to the following students for receiving awards in this competition:

1st place in French IIB – Noelle Warfford

2nd place in Chinese Native – Jiahua (Jessica) Gian

2nd place in Japanese Native – Ray Nii

2nd place in Spanish IVB – Frazier Weih

3rd place in French IIIA – Glory Pi

Robotics Team Wins 1st Place in State
The robotics team collected a first place finish at the South Carolina Robotics Invitational at Columbia High School. Rookie drive team members Kaleb Guion, Kenny Wheeler, and David Darling led the team to victory by defeating the winner of last spring's Georgia and South Carolina regionals in the final event of the 2011 season.

Lady Mavs Tennis Team in 3rd Round of the Playoffs!

Your Lady Mavs tennis team beat Irmo 6-1 in the second round of the playoffs. They will travel to TL Hanna on Tuesday for the 3rd round.

American Education Week - November 13-19
Greenville County Schools will celebrate American Education Week from November 13-19 with the theme, "Great Public Schools: Right Here in Greenville County!"

Wrestling Practice Begins Monday, 10/31
Wrestling practice begins on Monday, October 31st immediately after school. All eligibility forms are due to Coach Quay Scott by this Friday. Any student interested in wrestling should see Coach Quay Scott for information on the upcoming season.

Club International Officers Meeting - Wednesday, 11/2 @ 8:15 a.m.
There will be an important officers' meeting on Wednesday morning at 8:15 in Mrs. Noralee Robert's room. Don't forget to pick up a morning pass from Mrs. Noralee Robert.   

Operation Orange Meeting - Wednesday, 11/2 @ 8 a.m.
The next Operation Orange meeting will be this Wednesday, November  2nd at 8 a.m. in the Media Center. This is a mandatory meeting so please be in attendance. Notify Mrs. Christine Thomas or your committee leader 24 hrs. before the meeting if you are unable to attend.

Girls Soccer Informational Meeting - Thursday, 11/2 After School
There will be an informational meeting for any girls interested in trying out for the girls soccer team on Thursday (11/3) immediately after school in Coach Kevin Czar's room (B013). If you are unable to attend this meeting then you need to find Coach Kevin Czar and pick up some necessary papers prior to Thursday.  

GHS MedEx Academy
Attention Outstanding Juniors.  Are you interested in a career in healthcare?  Greenville Memorial Hospital is currently seeking applicants for the 3rd annual Medial Experience Academy Program. Interested students should see Mrs. Greshan Charlton in the guidance office.  

2012 - 2013 Fine Arts Center Applications Now Being Accepted
Students interested in attending the Fine Arts Center during the 2012-2013 school year may begin the application process. Students must apply online at www.fineartscenter.net. The application deadline is January 27, 2012.

Fine Arts Center High School Visitation Day - Tuesday, 11/18
The Fine Arts Center is hosting a visitation day on November 18. Students interested in attending the Fine Arts Center next year may attend. Students must pick-up a Pre-Arranged Absence Form available in guidance and submit a signed copy to the attendance office. Parents may attend and students must provide their own transportation.

Graduation Planning Conferences
Beginning November 3 - 9, the Mauldin High School Guidance Department will begin conducting small group graduation planning conferences with all current 10th graders. Students will receive individual notices of the time of their conference.  Counselors will discuss graduation planning, college admissions, and career plans. Parents of 10th graders may call their child's counselor for an appointment beginning November 10 - 15 to discuss information presented during the small group sessions if they would like. Eleventh grade conferences will begin in December and 9th grade conferences will begin in January. Parents and 11th and 9th grade students will be notified of specific conference dates at a later time. All students and parents will have an opportunity to meet with counselors to plan and prepare for graduation, career exploration and spring registration.

Jostens' Last Visit for Ring and Graduation Supplies Orders - Tuesday, 11/1
Jostens will be here on November 1st for their final visit to take orders for junior rings and senior graduation supplies. After this date you will need to make arrangement for any orders directly with Jostens at their location in Greenville. No orders will be able to be placed here at MHS after 11/

 The "Gang Out Summit" will feature three dynamic speakers from the Greenville County community:

    Attorney Jeff Weston (Assistant Solicitor for Greenville County) 

All youth in attendance will be asked to make a pledge to help bring an end to teen/gang violence and promote youth and community unity.

SNHS Meetings will take place the third Thursday of each month at 8:10 a.m. in B125, Mrs. Shanna Yown's room. The dates are Nov 17, Dec 15, Jan 19, Feb 16, March 15, April 19, and May 17th.  Our induction will be on Sept 27th at 6:30 in the media center.

The State Department of Education is pleased to offer free access online to ACT, PSAT, SAT, and AP Exam Reviews for any SC student who wishes to prepare for these tests during the 2011-2012 school year.  Students can gain access to the reviews at http://scvspconnect.ed.sc.gov.  Simply click on the Course Information tab and then the Test Preparation tab.
