Marching Band Continues to Perform Well!
The marching band performed at Foard High School in Newton, NC this weekend. Out of 20 bands competing, we placed 2nd overall with our percussion winning Best Percussion overall. Unless you plan to travel a good distance for the final two competitions, the last chance for you to see the show is this Friday night at the football game. Hope you can make it.
Congratulations to the Academic Team!
The Academic Team went undefeated in the division rounds at Dorman on 10/15. The team won their division and ended up in the quarter finals. Congratulations to Myndert Papenhuyzen, Eduardo Montes, Zack McGill, and Jon Fang. Myndert Papenhuyzen was the 4th highest scorer out of 104 competitors. Mauldin placed third out of 28 teams in the competition.
Beta Club Induction - Monday, 10/24
All NEW Beta Club members are reminded that Beta Club Induction is Monday, October 24th at 6:00 p.m. Please meet in the Media Center no later than 5:40 on Monday and remember to dress nicely. Induction is mandatory.
College Application Day - Friday, 10/28
October 28th, Mauldin High is hosting College Application Day. Sign up in guidance and give yourself the opportunity to complete a college application with the help of college admission counselor. For more information, check out sccango.org or see Mrs. Dalton Kelsey in the guidance office. Make sure you sign up by October 26th, limited space is available.

There are 2 sizes available: 2/5 bushel ($20) and 4/5 bushel ($30). Varieties include: Tangelos, navel oranges, juice oranges and ruby red grapefruit. You can also choose a mixed box ($22- 2/5 bu.) of half navels/half grapefruit.

Attorney Jeff Weston (Assistant Solicitor for Greenville County)
All youth in attendance will be asked to make a pledge to help bring an end to teen/gang violence and promote youth and community unity.

Free Access to ACT, PSAT, SAT and AP Exam Reviews
The State Department of Education is pleased to offer free access online to ACT, PSAT, SAT, and AP Exam Reviews for any SC student who wishes to prepare for these tests during the 2011-2012 school year. Students can gain access to the reviews at http://scvspconnect.ed.sc.gov. Simply click on the Course Information tab and then the Test Preparation tab.
Interested in Attending the Fine Arts Center Next Year?
Any student interested in attending the Fine Arts Center during the 2012-2013 school year may sign-up in guidance to attend an informational session to be held at 2:30 p.m. on October 26 at MHS. Representatives from the Fine Arts Center will be here to answer questions and discuss the application process. Interested students must sign-up in guidance by Monday, October 24.
New Science Teachers!
MHS welcomes back Stephanie Taylor! Mrs. Taylor was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. She received her B.S. in Biology at College of Charleston and then worked as a chemist ('93-'96). From 96-'99 Mrs. Taylor taught 8th grade science in Charlotte. After getting married in 2000, Stephanie moved to Greenville and taught biology at MHS ('00-12/03) when she left to have twin daughters. Stephanie and her family lived in Clermont-Ferrand, France (8/06-4/09).
Jeannette Bryan joins the MHS Science Department from Socastee High School in Myrtle Beach where she taught physical science, physics and chemistry. Jeannette has a B. S. degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech, a Masters in Business Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Masters in Teaching from Coastal Carolina. Ms. Bryan loves teaching science with a "hands-on" approach. In her spare time she enjoys golfing, kayaking, hiking and biking.

Jostens' Last Visit for Ring and Graduation Supplies Orders - Tuesday, 11/1
Jostens will be here on November 1st for their final visit to take orders for junior rings and senior graduation supplies. After this date you will need to make arrangement for any orders directly with Jostens at their location in Greenville. No orders will be able to be placed here at MHS after 11/1.

FREE Online SAT Prep Course
All students are encouraged to take advantage of the FREE online SAT Prep Course provided by Greenville County Schools. The program helps students set goals, measure strengths and weaknesses, take practice tests and improve essay-writing skills. Visit the guidance office today for your access code.
Spanish National Honor Society Meetings
SNHS Meetings will take place the third Thursday of each month at 8:10 a.m. in B125, Mrs. Shanna Yown's room. The dates are Nov 17, Dec 15, Jan 19, Feb 16, March 15, April 19, and May 17th. Our induction will be on Sept 27th at 6:30 in the media center.

The Media Center needs 20 SunnyD labels to receive 20 SunnyD Book Spree books for the children's literature collection (used by teacher cadets and Speech & Debate classes). Labels from all shrink-wrapped packs and bottles 16oz or larger are eligible. Thanks!
Student Highlights Bulletin Board Needs Photos & Newspaper Clippings!
Please remember there is a Student Highlights Bulletin Board in the atrium and I would love to see it filled up with items of news from YOU! If you have any photos, newspaper clippings, etc. of an MHS student's achievements, whether it is something school related or not, please let me know because I would love to add them to our bulletin board!
