Patch Gives 5

It's what we're all about

Update:

All I can say is thank goodness we weren't playing with real money. I paid a visit to the good folks at Ray Hopkins Senior Center in Mauldin today as part of the Patch Give 5 program (see below). The typically-packed schedule from the center's director Kay Hunt featured some card games - poker specifically. I sat in and proceeded to get my clock cleaned and my table-mates couldn't have been kinder. It was a great time and I'm looking forward to the next Give 5 day and my next visit.

Thanks to everyone at the senior center!

One of the core beliefs of Patch is volunteering. We believe that if you want to help make the community that you live in a little bit better, then you need to be willing to give of your own time to achieve that. It doesn’t take a visitor to Mauldin long to see that that spirit is alive and well here.

With the volunteer spirit in mind Patch has program called Give 5. And what it means is that five teams a year the editor in a Patch town will take a break from his or her typical duties and volunteer at a local organization.

Well, today is the first Give 5 Day for Mauldin Patch and I’ll be volunteering at the Senior Center on Corn Road.

If you are part of an organization that needs volunteers or know someone who is, send me an e-mail at shawn@patch.com and I’ll be sure to put you on the schedule.

But for today, if you happen to be in the neighborhood, stop by the Senior Center and say “hi.” Maybe you can give me some Canasta tips because I have a feeling the experts at the Senior Center are going to take me to school.
