Wingo Enters Final Week of Season

A quick review

As Scott Wingo heads into the last week of his first professional season, let’s take a quick look at the former Mauldin star’s numbers. First, the not so good. After going 9 for 20 with the Arizona League Dodgers, Wingo scuffled with the Ogden Raptors, going hitless in his first 18 at-bats. The Raptors were struggling as well, losing seven of eight during that stretch. But Wingo turned it around and so did his team. They have since gone 15-8 while Wingo has hit at a .324 clip (25 for 77). Overall, Wingo’s average stands at .265 and his on-base percentage is a sterling .460.  He also has six stolen bases, a key stat since he’s hit from the leadoff spot recently.

The Raptors won the first half so they are guaranteed a playoff. Having Wingo—a two-time NCAA Champion—in uniform should hold them in good stead as they try to win the Pioneer League title.

Title or not, Wingo’s first professional summer would have to be considered an unqualified success. In case anyone is wondering, the next step in the Dodgers organization is in low-A the Great Lakes Loons based out of Midland, Michigan.
