A fisherman led authorities today to recover human remains 6 miles from Isle of Palms.

The discovery comes eight days after Ronald C. Fowler, 36, launched his boat from his Mount Pleasant home and never returned. His boat was found overturned about 16 miles off the coast a day later.

The family told police they were concerned about Fowler's state of mind prior to him going missing, according to a police report. Recently unemployed and facing financial troubles, the family said his recent behavior was troublesome.

Calls to the Charleston County Coroner Tuesday afternoon seeking additional information about the recovery were not immediately returned.

The U.S. Coast Guard called off their search last week, said Petty Officer 3rd Class Jessica Potter, a Coast Guard spokeswoman. Mount Pleasant police had asked for media outlets along the East Coast to distribute messages about Fowler's case.
