Bowman Bridge Opens Monday

Bridge over Shem Creek will open after months of repairs.

After five months of closure, the small bridge over Shem Creek will re-open at 11 p.m. Monday, according to county officials.

The portion of Bowman Road between Chuck Dawley and Johnnie Dodds boulevards has been closed while crews install a new widened bridge.

So that's good news for the businesses along the road, which have complained about reduced business during the construction, but don't rejoice just yet.

Now that the new four-lane bridge is opening, the rest of Bowman Road will be widened to accommodate more traffic.

Also on Monday, motorists will no longer be able left turn from Frontage Road at Bowman Road. That's the intersection near McDonald's and Nason Medical Center. That change is permanent.

County officials estimate all of Bowman will be four-laned and back to normal by Spring 2013, according to a news release.
