• Mount Pleasant neighborhood residents fear fountains could disrupt beloved bird rookery (postandcourier.com) — Rivertowne neighbors in Mount Pleasant are worried new fountains and aerators planned for two stormwater ponds could disturb a beloved rookery of egrets, herons, ibises, and threatened wood storks. The HOA says it will relocate fountains and shut them off during nesting season, while conservation experts note the birds may tolerate some disturbance but are vulnerable during breeding.

• Patriots Point Announces Passing of Former Agency Head and Distinguished Veteran Rear Adm. James H. Flatley III (holycitysinner.com) — Mount Pleasant is mourning Rear Adm. James H. Flatley III, a 91-year-old longtime resident and former head of Patriots Point who died Dec. 12. Flatley, a decorated Naval aviator and Order of the Palmetto recipient, helped shape Patriots Point’s growth and later co-founded the USS Yorktown Foundation, leaving a lasting mark on the town’s maritime heritage.
