An estimated 42,000 people participated in the 2012 Cooper River Bridge Run Saturday. An Ethiopian man had the fastest time in the men's division and a Texas woman who may run in the 2012 Olympics swept the women's competition.
Solomon Deksisa won the men's portion of the race with a time of 29 minutes, 37 seconds. Janet Cherobon-Bawcom, a Nigerian native who became a U.S. citizen in 2010 swept the women's segment with a time of 33 minutes.

The race was Cherobon-Bawcom's seventh attempt at the Cooper Bridge title and her first time winning. She is in serious contention to run at the 2012 Olympic games in London, according to the Post and Courier.

Alexandre Dupont, a Canadian, had the fastest time in the race's wheelchair segment. He had a time of 25 minutes, 42 seconds. Keira-Lyn Frie, also of Canada, set a record with her time of 31 minutes, 34 seconds.
