Bridge Run Will Step up Security for 2014
Cooper River Bridge Run officials respond to Boston Marathon attacks.

The 2014 Cooper River Bridge run will have expanded security in response to terrorist attacks that killed three people at the Boston Marathon this week.
The Bridge Run has had expanded security since 9/11, according to a news release, but over the next year race officials plan to implement additional safeguards against an attack, according to a news release from the organization.
"Our hearts and prayers go out to the runners, families, the city of Boston and everyone affected by the tragedy yesterday," said Julian Smith, the Bridge Run's executive director. "It's a sad day for all of us."

The Bridge Run's board is set to discuss security at its planning retreat.
"We want to assure everyone that we have, and will continue, to focus on preventative measures to keep our participants safe," Smith said. "Safety is our top priority. We will be reviewing our security measures to ensure that we have the very best possible plan in place and will make any necessary enhancements."
