Cargo Ship Runs Aground off Sullivan's Island

HR Recommendation freed this morning after being stranded overnight.

A 430-foot-long cargo ship inbound to the Columbus Street Terminal ran aground overnight Tuesday, but has since been freed, according to the South Carolina Ports Authority.

"The HR Recommendation lost power during ebb tide and grounded in soft sand off Sullivan's Island without environmental incident or injury," said Blair Boldizar, port spokesperson.

The harbor remained open throughout the evening although the Coast Guard did establish a safety zone around the ship.
