Charleston Area Eighth Fastest-Growing
Census figures show growth throughout the South and West.

From 2010 to 2011, the Charleston area was the nation's eighth fastest-growing metropolitan community, according to figures released by the U.S. Census Bureau.
The Charleston-North Charleston-Summerville metropolitan statistical area, which includes Mount Pleasant and Goose Creek and other communities, saw a 2.6 percent increase in its estimated population, figures reflect.
The numbers translate to roughly 17,000 more residents. The figures provided no speculation on what's fueling the growth, though the recent addition of the Boeing manufacturing facility, affordable housing and good weather all likely contribute.
