Charleston County EMS Team Wins S.C. Paramedic Championship

Charleston County Government announces that the County’s EMS team won the South Carolina Paramedic Championship during the S.C. EMS Care Symposium held recently in Myrtle Beach.

Team members and EMS paramedics Matt Adams (of Johns Island) and Mike Peck (of Mount Pleasant) beat out three other regions and last year’s champion to win the honor. This is the third time Charleston County EMS won the competition. The first time was in 2003, and in 2005 an all-female team won for the first time since the competition began in 1986.

The 2012 scenario included responding to a simulated meth lab explosion with actors who were injured in the scenario, as well as others attempting to distract the responders.

“Our employees, known as ‘The M Team’, successfully worked the call, treated all patients appropriately and made real-time decision in front of a crowd of 200,” said Charleston County EMS Director Don Lundy. “It’s one thing to work in front of bystanders and another to work in front of 200 paramedics,” Lundy said. “It only goes to show that Charleston County EMS is really the best, and I am so honored to be working with such professionals.”
