Council Considers Plan to Relocate Bones

Human remains found while excavating for waterworks improvements.

Mount Pleasant Town Council votes tonight on a $30,000 plan to relocate at least six graves discovered recently while excavating for a waterworks improvement project.

The item is on the council's agenda tonight. The cost of the relocation will be added to the $850,000 wastewater project interrupted when the remains were discovered.

The bones were found Aug. 14 while workers were digging for new pipes in Mount Pleasant's Old Village. The remains were just outside the Ocean Grove Cemetery, which leads historians to believe the discovery is part of an unmarked pauper's grave.
