Elected Leaders Deliver Meals

East Cooper Meals on Wheels hosted Mayors for Meals Day Wednesday as part of the national March for Meals campaign.

With South Carolina ranked second in the nation for seniors at risk of hunger, the day provided an opportunity for elected officials to see how the organization serves the homebound of Mount Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island, Isle of Palms, Daniel Island, Cainhoy and Wando.

Mount Pleasant councilmembers Elton Carrier and Thomasena Stokes-Marshall delivered meals to a handful of Meals on Wheels patrons. Sullivan's Island Mayor Carl Smith and Jennifer Hightower, a representative for U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint also participated.
