Two Killed in Small Plane Crash near Awendaw

UPDATE 7:05 p.m.: The bodies of two people were located in the wreckage of a small plane that crashed Thursday afternoon in the Awendaw area.

First responders located the crash site near South Tibwin Road in Awendaw shortly after 6 p.m. Thurday, according a Charleston County Sheriff's Office statement.

The crash was first reported at 4:52 p.m. Sheriff's deputies, the Awendaw Fire Department and Department of Natural Resources agents were involved in the search.

The identity of the deceased has not been confirmed yet. 

Original Story: The Charleston County Sheriff's Office, the Awendaw Fire Department and Department of Natural Resources are searching the area near St James Santee Elementary School on Hwy. 17  in the Awendaw area for a reported plane crash.
