Last Chance: Laffey Celebraton
Historic destroyer will get hero's tribute this weekend.
It has been a big few weeks for . First, famed actress Ann-Margret visited and now the Mount Pleasant tourist attraction is officially welcoming home the USS Laffey.
The historic gun ship was nearly lost 67 years ago in a WWII battle with the Japanese. Three years ago, the ship nearly sank again in Charleston Harbor after years of deterioration.
But this week, April 13 to April 15 mark a galla homecoming following extensive repairs for the historic museum ship. Events are planned all weekend, and roughly 90 sailors who once served on the ship will attend events.
