Longer Hours at Pier in Place Friday

Waterfront attraction open until 11 p.m. from now on.

The pier at will operate with extended hours starting this Friday. From now on, the pier will remain open until 11 p.m.,

“Now our residents have more opportunity to take a pleasant walk down the pier or to simply sit on a pier bench and enjoy a South Carolina sunset. I would like to thank Mayor Billy Swails and Mount Pleasant Town Council for their support and the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission for their partnership,” said Councilman Chris Nickels, Public Services Committee Chairman, who proposed the hours change.

CCPRC who runs the pier, the pier plaza and the Riverwatch Café approved the extended hours.

“We, too, agree that the partnership with the Town of Mount Pleasant has been important and beneficial for Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission,” responded Ravi Sanyal, CCPRC Chairman.

“The security of our patrons and residents remains paramount and the presence of a police substation near the restrooms and the pier gate is ideally located to ensure safety on the pier,” Nickels said. “A police officer is already assigned to the park until midnight every night. The officer’s added duties will be to clear the pier prior to locking the gate and the restrooms. There will not be an added salary cost to extending the hours on the pier. ”
