Man Accused of Elder Abuse Out on Bond

Man accused of abusing 101-year-old man is released on bond.

A former Mount Pleasant nursing home aide has been released after posting a $100,000 bond on charges that he abused a 101-year-old bedridden man.

At least some of the alleged abuse was captured on a hidden camera set up by the victim's granddaughter, according to media reports.

The footage shocked the community and led to the arrest of Deasmond Kimbrough, 44, of North Charleston, who faces charges of knowing and willful abuse of a vulnerable adult, according to court records.

The hidden camera shows images of Kimbrough shaking, taunting and harassing Jesse Lee Wood, who had resided at Mount Pleasant Manor since 2011, according to media reports.

Kimbrough, a certified nurses assistant, hides behind a sheet during the video as Wood grabs for anything within his reach to fight off the alleged abuse. He reaches through the curtain and kisses the man on the cheek. At one point, Kimbrough is seen standing over the bed.

The elderly man's granddaughter set up the video camera after Wood complained that he was being mistreated at the 132-bed facility. The family is now searching for a new home for their relative, but there are long waits at most of the region's nursing homes.
