Motorcyclist Charged After Crash

A motorcyclist who allegedly fled a traffic stop was arrested after crashing his bike on Isle of Palms

A motorcyclist allegedly fleeing a traffic stop on Isle of Palms was transported to MUSC after colliding with a tree and mail box on Palm Boulevard.

A Charleston County Sheriff's Deputy attempted to stop the motorcyclist, later identified as Henry Oliver Nesbit, Jr., 28, of 2116 Presidio Drive, Mount Pleasant, after witnessing him make a turn without using a turn signal, according to a CCSO incident report.

Nesbit allegedly sped off when the deputy turned on his lights and siren at the intersection of JC Long Boulevard and Ocean Boulevard. The deputy pursued the motorcycle along Ocean Boulevard, to 9th Avenue to Palm Boulevard reaching speeds of 86 mph, according to the incident report.

The deputy lost sight of the motorcycle as it was weaving through traffic on Palm Boulevard but caught up to it at a curve in the road near 4th Avenue where the motorcycle was wrecked. It appeared to have left the road and collided with a tree and mailbox post, according to the report.

Nesbit was laying in the road near the bike bleeding from a gash on his head, and trying to stand up, according to the report. Nesbit was cuffed and searched, and deputies allegedly recovered 2.3 grams of marijuana, 2.3.grams of cocaine and $2,918.78 in cash from him. He was then transported to MUSC for treatment.

Nesbit is charged with failure to stop for blue lights, failure to signal, and habitual offender. Additional charges related to the seized drugs are pending according to a CCSO statement.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
