Mount Pleasant Pharmacy Robbed at Gunpoint

Mount Pleasant police are searching for a suspect who robbed a Bowman Road pharmacy at gunpoint Monday morning, according to an incident report.

The suspect entered East Cooper Family Pharmacy through an unlocked back entrance, pulled a gun and demanded medication. He got away with five bottles of the high-power painkiller oxycodone and two bottles of the similarly strong painkiller hydromorphone.

In his wake, the suspect left the pharmacy's staff shaken and in tears, according to the police report. The pharmacy did not have a video surveillance system, but police retrieved some surveillance from nearby businesses, according to the report.

Victims describe the wanted individual as a white male in his 30s, standing approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds, according to witness statements.

He wore a puffy camouflage jacket, blue jeans, a face mask and blue latex gloves, the incident report states. His firearm may have been a 9 mm handgun.

No one was injured, and police scoured the area, stopping a handful of suspects who even came close to the robber's description. One officer reported seeing a man matching the robber's description standing near the Arby's on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard shortly before the robbery was reported.

The officer said the man's behavior was suspicious, but the robbery had not been reported, so he had no reason to stop the man. An Arby's employee told officers that she saw that same man flee the area on foot toward the McDonald's on Bowman Road.

That witness described the man as wearing a camouflage jacket with a hood, a gray shirt, and gray and white sneakers with red soles. She remembered the soles because she could clearly see them as he ran from the area.
