Mount Pleasant Resident Awarded Meritorious Service Medal

U.S. Army Col. Jimmy Green noted for service.

In a recent ceremony, Col. Jimmy L. Green, of Mount Pleasant, was awarded the South Carolina’s Military Department Joint Services Detachment’s Meritorious Service Medal.

Green was honored for his “exceptionally outstanding service to the Joint Services Detachment and to the South Carolina Military Department” while serving as the Joint Services Detachment’s Assistant Provost Marshal and Assistant Finance Officer in the Finance Section since 27 March 2010.

“Col. Green’s initiative, professionalism and dedication to duty were clearly evident in his successful execution of all assigned tasks,” reflected former JSD Commander MG John Berkley Grimball. “His credits include serving as the Treasurer of the Joint Services Support Corporation, responsible for the full range of fiduciary responsibilities.

As a member of the 2012 Off‐Site Arrangement Committee, his planning and coordination resulted in a highly effective outreach of the Detachment with the US Coast Guard Joint Base Charleston, setting the standard for future off‐site visits by the unit.

His wealth of Active Duty and Army Reserve experience, coupled with his unselfish commitment of personal time and resources, make him an invaluable contributor to the Detachment with a level of performance that conspicuously exceeds that normally expected and deserving of highest acclaim.

Col. Green’s service has greatly aided the JSD’s mission capability and mission accomplishment, and brings great credit upon himself, the JSD and the SCMD.”

According to the Adjutant General of the State of South Carolina, MG Robert E. Livingston, Jr., “the SCMD Joint Services Detachment serve without pay, provide expertise to support the Youth ChalleNGe Academy, the South Carolina Military Museum and assist in supporting our National Guard troops in preparation for deployment, during deployment and after they return
from active duty deployment from locales across the globe. Additionally, JSD has worked tirelessly to promote tax relief for those members of the South Carolina State Guard who also serve without pay.”
