Mount Pleasant is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Mount Pleasant has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.

A few things to know:

  • Mount Pleasant, originally known as Christ Church Parish, has a unique connection to the Revolutionary War. Today, you can visit the Charles Pinckney National Historic Site to learn more about this important piece of history.
  • Mount Pleasant is home to one of the most iconic bridges in the United States: the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. This cable-stayed bridge spans the Cooper River and connects Mount Pleasant to downtown Charleston. The bridge is a popular spot for locals to walk, jog or bike, and the views of the Charleston skyline are simply breathtaking.
  • Shem Creek is a popular spot for dining, shopping and outdoor recreation. This tidal creek is home to a variety of seafood restaurants, where you can enjoy fresh local seafood while watching the boats come and go. You can also rent kayaks or paddleboards to explore the creek on your own.
  • Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is a must-visit attraction for anyone interested in military history. The museum is home to the USS Yorktown, a World War II aircraft carrier that served in the Pacific Theater. Visitors can explore the ship, tour the Medal of Honor Museum and learn about the history of naval warfare.
  • Mount Pleasant is also known for its beautiful parks and outdoor spaces. The Palmetto Islands County Park is a great place to take a hike, have a picnic or go fishing. The park features nature trails, a dog park and a kayak launch. Another popular park in the area is Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park, which offers stunning views of the Charleston Harbor.
