Patriots Point Plans Summer Camps
Museum partnering with town for three week-long camps.

For three weeks this summer (June 11-15, July 23-27 and August 6-10), will partner with the Town of Mount Pleasant to offer an educational summer camp for students ages 7-11. Structured curriculum will focus on living history and marine science while providing campers with an ‘all access pass’ to explore the USS YORKTOWN – Charleston’s largest floating classroom.
Each day will offer a different experience focused on different cross-curricular activities. Throughout the week, campers will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on marine science and living history programs in addition to classes in aviation, astronomy and oceanography. For example, one morning, students might conduct experiments on saltwater salinity from the YORKTOWN’s pier and spend an afternoon walking the footsteps sailors aboard the ship to learn what life was like during WWII.
“We are pleased to partner with the Town of Mount Pleasant to offer summer camp programs for the first time at Patriots Point,” said Executive Director Mac Burdette. “Whether they’re learning about our nation’s heroes in the Medal of Honor Museum, conducting a hands-on experiment in our state-of-the-art classroom or exploring the YORKTOWN’s surrounding estuarine environments, students will be excited to learn from the moment they arrive.”
