
The South Carolina Scholastic Championships were held in Columbia at the Samuel A. Heyward Career & Technology Center on Saturday, February 25. One-hundred seventeen students competed. Pinckney Elementary had a team of ten students compete, and the team placed 3rd overall.
Austin Setser, placed seventh overall (4th-5th grade division), and tied for first place 5th grader in the state. Other players from Pinckney included Graham Johnson (20th place), Aiden Healy (20th place), Sean Healy(17th place), Ben Goss(23rd place) and Donovan Myers (14th place).
Several Laurel Hill players are also a part of the Pinckney chess team and competed as well. Brady Setser tied for 3rd place overall (K-3 division) and won first place 1st grader in the state. Jacob Lewis, Joshua Lewis, and Rowan Johnson all had strong showings for their first year at the state championship.
