Extreme Run Gets Dirty

Rugged Maniac event at Boone Hall draws huge crowd.

Barbed wire, mud, scuffs, bruises and sore muscles are all part of the sales pitch that attracted hundreds of extreme-sport enthusiasts to Boone Hall Plantation Saturday.

The Rugged Maniac Adventure Race and Music Festival promised to push participants to their limits with a 5K run through forests and farmland at Boone Hall. And judging by all runners who limped across the finish line, it was clear they delivered on the pitch.

Rugged Maniac runners crawl over mud and dirt, through plastic pipes and under barbed wire through an obstacle course that tests the athletes' enduance. Tickets range from $50 for early registrants to $80 for last-minute registration.
