Sound Off: Should Town Ban Sign Wavers?

A local tax preparer has fired four 'sign wavers' after a city official told them that form of advertising was not allowed.

A Mount Pleasant tax preparer says he has fired four employees after a town official told him the so-called "sign wavers" violated the town's sign ordinance, according to media reports.

The owner of Liberty Tax Service, who had placed employees dressed as the Statue of Liberty along Coleman Blvd., told WCBD-TV that he's used similar on-street advertising in the Charleston area with no problem.

He says other businesses, such as Chik-fil-A, use the same advertising approach with no problem. He says the town's rules have forced him to fire workers who desperately needed the income, according to the TV station. He's appealing to the town for leniency.
