Charges Added in Teacher Sex Case
Teaching assistant accused of sex with Special Olympics student now faces more charges in Richmond County.

A teaching assistant accused of having sex with an underage Special Olympics athlete while in the Lowcountry, now faces additional sex-crime charges in Richland County, according to The State newspaper.
Cornelius K. Davis, 29, was arrested and charged in Mount Pleasant over the weekend with rape and criminal sexual contact with a minor, according to Mount Pleasant Police.
His alleged victim, a teenage Special Olympics participant, told police she had consensual sex with Davis while at a Mount Pleasant hotel for weekend Special Olympics games. The girl also reported having intercourse with the man while in Cayce, S.C., on March 1.

The Richland County Sheriff charged Davis with criminal sexual conduct with a minor, apparently for that March 1 incident. He was booked into the county jail and was awaiting a bond hearing on Thursday, the newspaper reported.

He was released on bond from Mount Pleasant early this week, court records indicate. Davis, who is married, was a Brookland-Cayce High School special education teaching assistant and was a volunteer for the Special Olympics.
