Charleston Democrat running for re-election to the House.

State Rep. Leon Stavrinakis, D-Charleston, announced Thursday he won't seek his party's nomination to run for the South Carolina State Senate seat left vacant when Glenn McConnell, R-Charleston, became leutenant governor.
"Stavrinakis will formally file for re-election to the South Carolina House of Representatives tomorrow," said spokesman Tyler Jones in an email statement. "Therefore, he will not be a candidate for state senate in 2012. A formal announcement will be released on Friday."
Starvinakis floated the notion of a senate bid in an email earlier this month. McConnell, a long-time Charleston senator, was president pro tem of the senate, but left the position when former Lt. Gov. Ken Ard resigned after being criminally indicted.
