The Mount Pleasant Town Council meets Tuesday at 6 p.m. for its regular January meeting. The town will take up a slate of non-controversial re-zoning applications, annexations and committee appointments.
One area of interest: The council will vote for the first time on a proposal to bar the short-term rental of residential properties in the Old Village. Short-term rentals, such as those available on VRBO.com, have been popular in recent years as home owners struggled to sell high-dollar properties in a sluggish real estate economy.

The council is also set to formally receive its annual financial audit. That report has no surprises. The town is running on a comfortable $21.9 million reserve fund, and the Government Finance Officers Association has given Mount Pleasant the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its financial planning.
The council's regularly monthly meetings are mostly procedural. Members of the public are allowed to speak, but the council has already discussed everything on Tuesday's agenda at an earlier day-long committee meeting. Those gatherings are also open to the public and are held on the first Monday of the month at 8:30 a.m.
