Wando Student Wins T-Shirt Contest

Shirt will be worn by Miracle League supporters during big fund raiser.

The Charleston Miracle League, one of the 2012 Cooper River Bridge Run’s charities of choice, will sport a new look for its major fundraiser this spring thanks to the talented Carolina Hopper.

A Wando High School student computer graphics major, Hopper broke West Ashley High School’s prior winning streaks by securing the “Bridging the Gap through Baseball Tee-Shirt Contest.” Her win marks the first time a student from a school other than West Ashley High has won the contest.

Mount Pleasant Mayor Billy Swails, Mount Pleasant Council Member Elton Carrier, Wando High School Principal Lucy Beckham and The Charleston Miracle League Founder Channing Proctor congratulated Hopper for her accomplishments. Mayor Swails presented her with the Key to the Town. Mr. Proctor presented her with a $100 check, along with a $200 check for the Wando High School Art Department.

“I am honored by the recognition and delighted to increase awareness of The Charleston Miracle League with a wearable and visible tee-shirt,” said Hopper.

“Ms. Hopper’s creation will help our fundraising efforts. We run our annual fundraiser Bridging the Gap through Baseball in conjunction with the Cooper River Bridge Run (March 31, this year),” said Proctor. “We hope to double our fundraising goal this year to help fund building a first-of-its- kind Therapy Play Module. This new playground equipment will allow physical therapist to treat special-needs patients in an outdoor setting at the site of our Charleston Miracle League field in West Ashley.”
