Weekend: Laffey Returns, Ft. Sumter...

Plenty of spring activities this weekend.

If you're looking for something to do this weekend, it shouldn't be too hard to stay busy. There's plenty of events on tap. We'll share a few.


Events all weekend at Patriots Point
Weekend events celebrate the official return of the USS Laffey, the famed WWII gunship on display at Patriots Point. Events are open to the public. Here's a tip: Park at the College of Charleston sports complex and walk to avoid the $5 parking fee.

Fort Sumter Anniversary
All day Saturday
This weekend marks 151 years since the first shots of the Civil War were fired on Fort Sumter. The parks, whcih include Sumter, Fort Moultrie and Charles  Pinckney National Historic Site, The folks at Sumter plan reenactments all day Saturday. Hop the boat at Patriots Point.

Saturday, 11 a.m., Palmetto Islands County Parks
Pets and their owners are invited to take part in a weekend full of exhibits, demonstrations, experts, rescue groups and entertainment at Charleston’s premier pet festival, Pet Fest!


Saturday, 3 p.m., CofC Baseball Stadium, Patriots Point
College of Charleston takes on Samford for a big weekend series, and though the action on the diamond is the focus, players will attract extra notice when they shave their heads to benefit childhood cancer.
