• Industrial growth continues in Orangeburg County (wistv.com) — New industrial projects in Orangeburg County are moving forward, including a newly approved development and a 400,000‑square‑foot plant expected to create nearly 400 jobs. Local leaders say these facilities will especially benefit residents without college degrees, offering higher‑paying, accessible work and helping chip away at the county’s high unemployment and income gap. Residents and business leaders alike see Orangeburg as an emerging hub for high‑tech industry.
   

• SCDOT to hold public hearing on proposed I-26 corridor improvements (wltx.com) — Major changes are being proposed for I-26 through Orangeburg County, and residents can weigh in at a public hearing on January 8, 2026, at the Orangeburg County Conference Center. SCDOT will present plans to widen and upgrade I-26 between mile markers 145 and 172, with displays, Q&A, and formal comments accepted in person and online through January 23.
   

• Roy Jones, College of Education faculty member and executive director of Call Me MISTER®, to retire from Clemson University effective June 2026 (clemson.edu) — Orangeburg readers may remember Roy Jones from his years leading teacher education at Claflin University before he helped grow Clemson’s Call Me MISTER program into a national model. Jones will retire from Clemson in June 2026, and the university is launching a national search for his successor while naming an interim director to keep the influential teacher pipeline moving forward.
