Greenville County Warns of Possible Flooding

Over the next few days there is a possibility of more heavy rainfall moving into our area that could potentially cause flooding. Flash flooding can occur in any area where large amounts of rainfall accumulate in a short period of time.

Officials with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management Division would like to remind everyone to use caution when traveling through low lying areas where creeks, ponds and rivers may be at higher levels due to recent above normal rain fall. Do not drive into flooded areas, if floodwaters rise around your car, abandon the car and move to higher ground. Do not walk through moving water. Six inches of moving water can cause you to fall. If you must leave your home due to flooding make sure to take your medication and pets with you when you leave. If there is any possibility of flooding move to higher ground, do not wait to be told to leave your home. Be sure to alert a family member or a point of contact of where you will be if you must leave your home.
