Police: Man Allegedly Assaults Wife Over Suspicious Baseball Cap
Woman receives minor injury in argument that turn into an alleged attack, report says.

A Simsponville man faces a criminal domestic violence charge after he allegedly attacked his wife in an argument over a suspicious baseball cap, a Simpsonville Police report said.
The wife stated an argument ensued after her husband found the baseball cap under the front seat of their car, the report said. When he questioned her about it, a physical altercation allegedly resulted while their four-year-old son watched, the report said.
The wife alleged her husband tried to grab the cap from her hands and in the process got behind her and wrapped his arm around her neck "in a choking manner," the report said. The wife complained of an injured wrist, which was painful and swollen from the allged tussle, the report said.
Police later located the husband at his mother's house nearby. He told police he found the cap while he was cleaning out the car, the report said. He admitted to getting into a verbal argument with his wife about it and trying to keep the hat from her, but at no time grabbed her around the neck as alleged, the report said.
The wife, who began to cry when told her husband was to be arrested, said she didn't want to press charges, but under state law police do not need the victim's consent to make an arrest in a criminal domestic violence incident.
The man, whose name and all other personal information was redacted from the police report, was arrested and taken to the county detention center and later released on $3,500 bond.
