Simpsonville Fire Chief Wesley Williams returned to work Wednesday.

The assistant police chief in Simpsonville has resigned following her recent suspension while the town's fire chief is back at work, according to city officials.
Simpsonville Assistant Police Chief Colleen O’Neil has resigned Wednesday, following an explosive city council meeting Tuesday night,.
On Monday, City Administrator Russ Hawes indefinitely suspended O'Neil and Simpsonville Fire Chief Wesley Williams.

During Tuesday's council meeting a vote following an executive session rescinded Monday's suspensions of O'Neil and Williams, whose alleged affair is central to the mess now embroiling the city's police department and city government.
Williams returned to work Wednesday, according to Lavada Galloway, the city's human resource director.

According to the Greenville News, O’Neil and Williams said they were never given reasons for the suspensions in writing.
“I’m back at work today and here just to basically serve the citizens of Simpsonville,” Williams told the newspaper.
“My choice to retire was made because I have achieved goals in my personal life that I have been working toward,” O’Neil said.
