Simpsonville Man Kills Himself During Lowcountry Traffic Stop
Matthew Lee Paine of Simpsonville died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head Monday after Berkeley County Sheriff's deputy pulled him over for minor infraction.

Berkeley County (SC) Coroner Bill Salisbury has identified the man who apparently killed himself Monday during a traffic stop on Redbank Road near Goose Creek.
Salisbury said Matthew Lee Paine, 28, of Simpsonville shot himself when the deputy approached his truck after pulling him over. The cause of death was ruled a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Paine was being pulled over for a seatbelt infraction.

According to public records, Paine had pleaded guilty to unlawful neglect of a child in February. He received a sentence of 10 years suspension, according to Greenville County records.
Paine's obituary can be viewed here on GreenvilleOnline. His funeral is Saturday in Fountain Inn.
