Bump in Pay Discussed for Summerville Mayor

Summerville Town Council had a heated discussion on whether or not to increase the salary of Mayor Bill Collins, the Journal Scene reported.

Collins earns $15,000, but is a full-time mayor. Collins where the mayor is the administrator. The town has a vacant administrator position which it has yet to fill during the mayor's time in office. By resolution, Collins adopted administrator duties. 

The Journal Scene reported council members Walter Bailey, Bill McIntosh and Terry Jenkins were in favor of the increase since the mayor "works 40-plus hours a week," but council members Bob Jackson and Aaron Brown appeared in opposition to the measure. Councilwoman Kima Garten-Schmidt was not mentioned in the story.
