DEW: 400 Fewer Employed in Dorchester County

Dorchester County's unemployment rate is below the national average.

About 400 more people found themselves out of work in Dorchester County in August, according to S.C. Department of Employment Workforce. 

The 400 newly jobless join the roughly 5,000 already out of work in the county. 

Dorchester County's unemployment rate is at 7.0 percent, below the national average of 7.3 percent. Dorchester County saw a .2 percent increase in unemployment in August as more people enter the workforce and more found themselves out of work.

Since August 2012, the Charleston area has seen an increase of 4,500 jobs, equating to a 1.4 percent increase in employment. 

In August, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 8.1 percent.
