• Rotary Club opens 2026 grant cycle (postandcourier.com) — Summerville nonprofits now have a fresh chance at funding, as the Rotary Club of Summerville has opened its 2026 community grant cycle for local projects. Eligible 501(c)(3) groups serving Summerville and nearby counties can apply for one-time needs like equipment or special programs, with awards up to $20,000 and recipients to be announced by May 1, 2026.
   

• DCSO Chief Deputy Bruce Owens receives Order of the Palmetto (postandcourier.com) — Longtime Summerville law enforcement leader Bruce Owens has been awarded the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian honor, recognizing more than 50 years of military and police service. Owens, a former Summerville police chief and now chief deputy with the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, received the award during the sheriff’s office Christmas party and awards banquet.
   

• A hidden treasure was buried in Charleston decades ago. A Summerville man thinks he's found it. (postandcourier.com) — A Summerville resident believes he’s finally cracked a decades-old treasure riddle tied to a buried casque somewhere in the Charleston area. After years of research, he’s convinced the prize lies near the USS Yorktown in Mount Pleasant, but he’s still waiting on official permission to dig and prove his theory.
