Lottery Winner Runs to Collect Dough β€” Without Telling Wife

The Berkeley County man won $500,000, but didn't tell his wife.

A Berkeley County man who $500,000 playing the lottery last week.

But instead of telling his wife, the Cross man escaped to Columbia to collect the dough instead, according to a press release from the S.C. Education Lottery.

He told lottery officials that he left his wife sleeping in bed and drove the two hours to Columbia to cash in his Palmetto Cash 5 ticket (7, 13, 16, 19 and 28).

His plan? To return by lunch to tell her.

What will she say? β€œThere is no telling."

The $500,000 will pay off the couple’s house and buy both new vehicles, the unidentified man said.

He hopes that will keep him out of trouble for running out.

β€œI’m her prize now,” he joked.

The odds of winning $500,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 8,031,072.

For selling the claimed ticket, BD Food Mart in Cross received a commission of $5,000.
