SC1 Candidate Colbert Busch Speaks at Black History Awards
Lowcountry Black Historical Society will host the second annual Black History Honors Awards Show Sunday at Summerville High.

Eleven men and women from the Charleston region will be honored at the second annual Black History Honors Awards Show, hosted by the Lowcountry Black Historical Society.
The event is 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, at the auditorium of Summerville High School. Congressional candidate Elizabeth Colbert Busch will be keynote speaker.
In recognition of their public service and other contributions to the black community, this yearβs honorees are:

- Dorothy Brown, 2nd Vice Chair of the Dorchester County Democratic Party
- Elizabeth Colbert Busch, director of Business Development at Clemsonβs Restoration Institute and congressional candidate
- Elaine and Albert Glover, proprietors of the Glover Funeral Home
- Margaret Goodwine, chair of Dorchester Democratic Women
- Carolyn Howard, former Dorchester County School District Two School Board member
- Anthony Lemon, associate municipal judge
- Chief Bruce Owens, Summerville Police Department
- Pat Raynor, Communications Director of Dorchester County School District TwoΒ
- Frances Townsend, Dorchester County School District TwoΒ School Board member
- Rev. Luther Williams, St. Luke Baptist Church
Two institutions in the region will also be honored. To receive Humanitarian Awards from LBHS are:
- Sand Hill UMC of Ridgeville
- Summerville Journal Scene
Ethel Campbell, who was honored at last yearβs Award Show, will be emcee of the event.Β A reception will follow the presentation.
Dr. Rayford Brown and Louis Smith are co-chairs of LBHS, which was first established in 2012.Β A non-profit organization, LBHS is a diverse organization of community activists, philanthropists, educators, historians, and people who appreciate and have common interest in preserving the black heritage.
