Speak Out: Are You Afraid of Sinkholes?

Sinkhole opened and swallowed a Florida man as he slept β€” tell us if you're freaking out.

It's the stuff of nightmares: a man sleeping in his bed is sucked into the earth as a sinkhole opened underneath his Seffner, Fla., home.

On Feb. 28, family and neighbors of Jeffrey Bush heard him cry out in distress moments before his bedroom collapsed into the ground. At a press conference tonight, March 1, the officials investigating the sinkhole at 240 Faithway Drive in Seffner could only say that the sinkhole was "unprecedented" and extremely dangerous.Β Click here to read more at Brandon Patch.

Florida Geological Survey reported that due to Florida's limestone base, sinkholes are a common occurance in the state.Β

South Carolina also has had sinkholes in the past. In the Lowcountry, Dorchester County had a several few years ago. In the Pee Dee, other sinkholes have been reported more recently.Β
