Summerville Mom Allegedly Eats Drugs at Checkpoint

Eutawville Police have arrested a Summerville woman during a driver's license checkpoint and have alleged she ate drugs that they found in her possession, Live 5 News reported.

Shantia Shalar Simmons, 25, was stopped at the driver's license checkpoint in Eutawville Friday. Her two children were in the back seat. Officers noted a bag of green leafy substance, presumed to be marijuana. While arresting Simmons, a bag of white powdery substance was discovered. 

According to the report, Simmons, handcuffed but near the evidence, allegedly ingested the white powdery substance. When she refused to spit out the substance, officers pepper-sprayed her. She was transported to the hospital for observation.
