Woman Turns in Unclaimed $200k Lottery Ticket

Ticket went unclaimed for days before Summerville woman claims the prize.

Someone was $200,000 in Summerville last week, but no one had the claimed the ticket β€” at least not right away.Β 

Eventually a Summerville woman, who's name was not disclosed by the S.C. Education Lottery, cashed in her winnings though.Β 

The Palmetto Cash 5 ticket was purchased for $2 at Mr. K's Piggly Wiggly on Central Avenue. The woman had played the game for eight years before theΒ 1 in 1,003,884 odds swung in her favor.Β

She told S.C. Education lottery thatΒ Β telling friends and family she won was as much fun as winning.

β€œI wanted to tell my husband first,” she said.

Next, she whispered the news to a couple of her coworkers.

She proceeded to make a flip book that read β€œI won $200,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5” and surprised her daughter with the message later that evening.

The next day she notified the rest of the office.

β€œIt really hasn’t sunk in yet,” the winner told lottery officials when she cashed in the winning ticket.

Saying β€œI won the Lottery,” takes some getting used to.

For selling the claimed Palmetto Cash 5 ticket,Β Mr. K's Piggly Wiggly 130Β inΒ SummervilleΒ received a commission of $2,000.Β 

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.9 billion has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
