• Carter County Recycling Center urges holiday recycling efforts (elizabethton.com) — If you’re buried in cardboard and plastic in Elizabethton after holiday deliveries, Carter County Recycling Center on Cherokee Park Road offers free drop-off for cardboard, mixed paper, newspaper, plastics, metal cans and used motor oil. Open weekdays 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the center also provides outdoor bins so you can recycle even when staff are gone.
   

• Carter Sports Hall of Fame welcomes eight new members (elizabethton.com) — Local sports history buffs will appreciate that several standout athletes from Elizabethton High and other Carter County schools are being honored in the Carter County Sports Hall of Fame’s super seniors class. The inductees include multi-sport Cyclone star Robert “Daylight” Fletcher and prolific Elizabethton scorer Thelma “Ted” Bateman, alongside legends from Happy Valley, Unaka, Cloudland, Hampton, Douglas and Milligan.
