A Community of Faith in Action – Franklin Rises Against Hunger

One Church. One Community. One Mission of Compassion.

On Sunday, July 20, the sacred space of Wesley Hall at Franklin First United Methodist Church was transformed into a beacon of compassion. In partnership with Rise Against Hunger, our community came together in unity and purpose to pack over 25,000 meals for families facing hunger around the world.

This wasn’t just a volunteer event, it was a profound expression of faith, devotion, and selfless service. It was a moment when the Franklin community lived out the Gospel, not only in words but in deeds.

From children as young as eight to senior citizens, everyone was welcome and encouraged to serve. The event emphasized intergenerational collaboration, showcasing that every age, every ability, and every heart matters when it comes to answering the call to love and serving others.

At the heart of this mission stood Franklin First United Methodist Church, whose unwavering commitment to community outreach and hospitality made this gathering possible. Their leadership, space, and spiritual guidance created an atmosphere filled with joy, energy, and holy purpose.

As Rev. Dr. Bryan Brooks, Senior Pastor, shared so movingly:

“When we serve together, we embody the heart of Christ. Each meal packed is a sacrament of grace, a message of hope, and a reminder that love has no borders.”

Rev. Carlisle Jones, Pastor of the Historic Sanctuary and Missions, was also instrumental in inspiring volunteers and emphasizing the church’s dedication to missions. Under their leadership, the church continues to model what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the world.

The event was strengthened by volunteers from across the region, including many members of Rotary Clubs, with a strong presence from the Franklin Breakfast Rotary Club, proudly represented by Bhavani Kumar Muvvala (BK). Their spirit of civic engagement and “Service Above Self” perfectly complemented the faith-driven heart of this initiative.

Participation was free, but with a mission to raise $10,000 to fund the meals, community members were invited to donate $20 per person or $50 per family. The generosity shown was nothing short of inspiring proof that Franklin’s heart beats for justice, compassion, and love.

From setup to cleanup, every moment of the day was infused with a spirit of unity. Together, we didn’t just pack meals, we packed hope, peace, and the promise of a better tomorrow.
